Abstract: Water is one of the most essential substances for sustaining life on Earth, and its significance extends across biological, environmental, economic, and social aspects. Lakes serve as important natural reservoirs of freshwater. Hirva Lake, located in Umred city of Nagpur district, is a perennial water body with year-round water availability. The diversity of fish present in any aquatic habitat is an important indicator of the ecological health of that water body. Therefore, the present study aims to document and report the ichthyofaunal diversity of Hirva Lake. The study was conducted from June 2023 to June 2025. A total of ten species of freshwater fishes belonging to the families Cyprinidae (4), Notopteridae (1), Clariidae (1), Cichlidae (1), Siluriformes (2) and Perciformes (1) were recorded from Hirva Lake.
