Study of the effects of dietary administration of Iron oxide nanoparticles on the haematological parameters of the fish “Labeo rohita”
Author(s): Vivek Kumar
Abstract: In this research study, we have investigated the effects of dietary administration of Iron oxide nanoparticles on the haematological parameters of the fish
Labeo rohita. Different combinations of the Iron oxide nanoparticles were added to the basal feed for ninety days period of study. Feeding experiments were carried out in triplicate at the department of Zoology, Bareilly College, Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh. Fishes of approximately similar body weights were randomly distributed in five glass tanks that were continually aerated. Five concentrations of Iron oxide nanoparticles (0 mg/kg, 15 mg/kg, 30 mg/kg, 45 mg/kg, and 60 mg/kg) were administered concurrently to these five fish treatment groups. Treatment group T
1, which served as the control group, was given a basal meal consisting 0 mg/kg Iron oxide nanoparticles. After a 15-day interval (
viz 0, 15, 30, 45, 60, 75 and 90 days), haematological parameters (RBC count, Haemoglobin, Haematocrit value, Mean cell haemoglobin concentration, Mean cell haemoglobin, Mean cell volume) were measured to assess the effects of the Iron oxide nanoparticles. In comparison of other treatment groups, two treatment groups (T
4 and T
3) shown superior haematological parameters. In order to improve the haematology of the fishes, 60 mg/kg Iron oxide nanoparticles concentration in the basal diet of
Labeo rohita is more effective.
