Abstract: This study assessed the population densities and amictic egg occurrence of rotifer (
Brachionus rotundiformis,
Tschugunoff
1921) cultured in four media enriched with locally available supplements: A (microalgae
Chlorella sorokiniana + baker’s yeast), B (microalgae + commercial powdered milk), C (microalgae + vitamin-mineral premix), and D (microalgae only). Researchers applied two feeding schedules, alternate feeding (1) and daily feeding (2) and ran each culture trial for 14 days. Treatment A consistently yielded the highest rotifer densities under both feeding schedules (
XA1=635±141 rotifers ml
-1;
XA2=797±271 rotifers ml
-1), while Treatment D recorded the lowest (
XD1=200±15.1 rotifers ml
-1;
XD2=263±53.2 rotifers ml
-1). Specific growth rates among Treatments A, B, and C (all with enrichments) were statistically comparable, with Treatment A showing the fastest growth. Amictic egg presence consistently exceeded 30% in all samples, indicating healthy culture conditions. Overall, cultures supplemented with enrichments outperformed those fed with pure algae in terms of rotifer growth and reproductive performance.
