Abstract: The present study is an attempt to characterize the fishing activity of Sardinella aurita and Sardinella maderensis juveniles according to the type of vessels, gears, areas, depths and fishing periods at Hann Bay, in the region of Dakar, Senegal. The results showed that landings of these juveniles are mostly made of purse seines. The generalized linear model (GLM) implemented showed that the abundance of catches of juveniles of both species varies monthly, from one season to another, depending on the types of fishing gear and at different depths. In established histograms, ¾ of measured individuals have very small sizes with lower modes to heights prohibited by the Code of marine fisheries of Senegal in progress. This work will serve as a benchmark for proposing deterrent mitigation measures, especially since it is an abuse of juveniles (individuals who have not reached the size of first sexual maturity and who therefore would not have yet reproduced).
