Abstract: Three populations of
Mormyrus rume, from Prikro, Bouaflé and Guessabo (Côte d’Ivoire), fished in the Comoé, Bandama and Sassandra rivers, respectively, were morphologically assessed. A total of 93 specimens were collected from commercial fishing. Six meristic and 18 metric characters were evaluated, then subjected to statistical analysis. The analysis of variance showed that out of the 24 characters, 17 variables including 12 metrics and 5 meristics varied significantly (p ≤ 0.05). Among the 17 characters, only 9 variables proved to be highly differential in order to segregate the studied populations. Ascending linear discriminant analysis confirms 78.44% correct classification of individuals within the three stations. The factorial discriminant analysis and the hierarchical clustering analysis showed the existence of two morphologically distinct groups consisting, on the one hand, of individuals from Prikro and on the other hand of those from Bouaflé and Guéssabo.
