Alien invasive fish species in Bulgarian waters: An overview

Abstract: This paper provides a review of the non-indigenous ichthyofauna occurring in the Bulgarian marine and freshwaters. The most important vectors of introduction are imports for aquaculture purposes and mediterranization.Prime source regions are the Mediterranean Sea and North America. However, for a significant part of the introductions both the establishment success and mode of introduction remain unknown. I also list legislation and international conventions pertinent to the non-nativespecies.
